"100,000 hits and still counting"

The Woonsocket, Rhode Island Hip Hop & Rap group “1 LYFE” is heating up the myspace.com circuitry. They have generated over 100,000 hits on their web page and have gained a large internet fan base, and started their own local label recently “1 Lyfe Productions, llc”. I had an opportunity to meet with the group last week and spoke to them about their LYFE in the music business.
The group has three members NIQ [Nique Fullen], AC [Aaron Cole], and J.DOT [Jarrett Flores], and each one brings something different to the table.

"creative lyrics that induce political and social awareness"
Achieving success and longevity in the music business is all about defying the norm and setting yourself apart as an artist. Puerto Rican Reggaeton artist L. Bebe [Luis Rodriguez] has a leg up on the competition from his creative lyrics that induce political and social awareness [“Nino Innocente” a song about child abuse], to his worldly viewpoints about life’s struggle.
Luis was born in Puerto Rico and has lived in New England and New York City with his daughter Daysmarie for over eight years. He is currently working on his new album titled “Solo contra Todo” to be released in July 2010. The album is being produced in New York City by “Estudio de Mejores Music”.

Alask y Yerial [continue to pave the path]

The world of hip hop is ever changing, not just in the underground scene but in the popular and mass media. The Latino contribution to hip hop and its influence on Reggaeton is undoubtedly noticeable. Due to its increasing popularity, the Reggaeton market is increasing and spilling over into the hip hop and R & B genres. [Daddy Yankee, Pitbull, and others]
I had the pleasure of interviewing two young reggaeton artists this past weekend; they exhibit an unbelievable energy and passion for the music they love and its cultural connection to Latin people, specifically Los Boricuas [The American born Puerto Rican population].
Alask y Yerial [Jose Ramos & Nathaniel Semidey] are completing the final tracks for their new album to be released in July 2010. This reggaeton group is well known in the underground scene and throughout the island of Puerto Rico, and now is planning their tour of the North East reggaeton market.

“I realized that I needed to further my education to help my music career”

When you think about hip-hop artists you probably have a vision of some thug teen with a pair of jeans wrapped around his ankles and an oversized t-shirt walking around the neighborhood instead of attending school. However, this stereotype is losing its stronghold on the American sub-culture.
Every day, the hip-hop movement is evolving and its participants are making the connection between their success as an artist and their academics. The following high school students are a great example of the new 21st century hip-hoppers"
